Director’s Note
Welcome back to school and the Northgate High School Instrumental Department for 2020-2021! As we all wish we could be together in room 93 and in performance, we’re faced with continued distance learning. A big difference this school year compared to last spring is that the classes will meet regularly and assignments will be given. There are two formats that we will utilize as we get started: Google Classroom and Flipgrid. There will be playing assignments that will be heard live in breakout rooms and on Flipgrid. As you prepare and perform these assignments, I will be looking at them as chances to interact with you so that I can make comments on next steps for you and your musicianship. I will have the opportunity to record comments in Flipgrid that you will hear in real time as you hear your performance. When I hear you play in Zoom I’ll be listening to you in a breakout room, sometimes with a small group and sometimes individually. Written assignments will be turned into Google Classroom.
All of that being said, there will be fits and starts. I’m just learning most of this technology and I anticipate getting help from some of you as we go. Hopefully, this distance learning will be over soon and we’ll be celebrating that we get to work with each other live and get back to performing.
We will need to get music to all of you and instruments and equipment to many of you. We will be handing out both on Wednesday. That’s 8/19! There will be a crew of parents helping me distribute materials. All sophomores, juniors and seniors should come in between 10:25-11:45am. Freshmen should come in between 12:45-2:05pm.
If you are a first-time parent to our program, please contact Northgate Instrumental Music Boosters (NIMB) President, Heather-Ann LeBlanc, to find out how you can contribute. Our boosters are the best! They are hardworking, supportive of each other and just plain great people! We would not be able to do what we do without them. Come be a part of it, you might be surprised how fun and rewarding your participation can be.
Once again, welcome and thanks in advance for your support of our fine young musicians!
Best Wishes,
Greg Brown

Welcome to the 2020 - 2021 School Year!
The NIMB board would like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year, such as it is.
We understand that your kids will not be in class physically at the start of this year however we still have big plans.
As this pandemic situation is still unfolding, we are continually revising our budget to reflect inevitable changes. However, the program still has current financial obligations to meet that needs as much support as it can get.
Our Paypal option is temporarily down but we encourage you to send in your class contribution Check, made out to “NIMB,” to our P.O. Box. (See address below).
Last year’s class contribution amounts were just $250 for our classic bands (Concert, Symphonic, Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra), $260 for JBII and $380 for JBI. As stated earlier, this situation is still unfolding as is our budget so please send in a check for what you can so we are able to jump right in when the kids get back to school.
It is our hope and goal to be rolling out information about our biennial SoCal trip soon. As of now we are still planning on taking this trip on April 21, 2021.
Thank you so much.
