Hello from Mr. West!
Dear MBA musicians and families,
With Marching Band Camp coming up in less than a month, I wanted to officially welcome everyone to our 2019 season! My name is Anthony West and I am excited to be stepping in as your new MBA director.
As you’ve probably heard by now, Mrs. Stafford is leaving Northgate to become the new full-time music director of Alhambra High School in Martinez and I honestly couldn’t think of a better person for the job! She was my music teacher through middle and high school and actually played a large part in my own decision to become an educator. She was also essential in reviving the marching program when I taught at Hercules High School. Lastly, and most importantly, she helped me get this job at NHS so I kind of owe her a lot. Best of luck, Sara!
I’ve already had the pleasure of meeting a few members from the student leadership team, but to those of you that I haven’t met yet- hey! I’m greatly looking forward to working with you all and creating something amazing this year. I’ve been involved in music ever since I was in first grade and I can’t tell you how much of a difference it makes when an ensemble is full of passionate members such as yourselves. It really makes this job worth it!
To all of the parents who help keep this program running- I haven’t met you yet, but I am already indebted to you. Knowing that Northgate’s ensembles are supported by such a capable group of individuals makes me feel like I can focus on what really matters: helping your students grow into being the best people they can be. I’d also like to give a special thanks to Amanda Aguilera for being an outstanding MBA parent coordinator. I may be the one steering the ship, but she’s the one steering me and for that I am grateful.
With regards to Camp, please make sure to bring the following:
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. Also, make sure to check the NIMB website often for any updates to calendars and for information on any events. As always, Mrs. Aguilera can help facilitate any paperwork or volunteer needs.
In closing, here’s to a great semester and, in keeping with this year’s camp theme: “you teach me and I’ll teach you.”
